Full Version: Buy the right size jack!

I found out the fun way that our great trucks require a little more than a standard jack. While some of you might know this already, bear with me.

I bought a jack so that I could put my new wheels on, didn't think twice about it lifting high enough (the one I bought lifted 14"). I had to place a 4x4 on top of the jack to get my wheels off the ground, lets just say that wasn't the safest way to go, but it worked.

I would highly reccommend getting a jack that will lift in excess of 18".

Good advice Ken. I went through this same thing. And I did something similar as you mentioned. Noly I put the equivelant of 4" of wood UNDER the jack. Seemed relatively safe, but once I had it in the air, I immediately put jack stands under it and let the truck rest on those. I never get under the truck without the stands.

If anyone comes across a good floor jack that seems to handle the Tahoe well, let me know, I am kinda looking for a new, larger, jack...
