Just bought 01' Suburban. i would like to do as much work by myself that i can. also a few mods. i will search for info.
(i may not know all the proper names)
my short list of future projects include:
-changing seat covers- (leather on front 2 seats is slightly cracked)
-would like to chage out the rectangular shaped fogs to the round ones- (one is missing glass)
-change plastic external door handles to chrome handle with painted behind it-
-Billet grill-
-bug deflector-
-change out stock radio to touch screen unit with dvd and ceiling mounted screen-
-K&N drop in air filter-

it's gray with neutral interior, 128,000 mi. well taken care of. my first truck, still getting used to it, i really like it so far.(and this forum)

i will look for the info. myself but if anyone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. thumbsup.png

Welcome!

Seats~ Search for catskins
Fog Lights~ the round ones are for a Z71, may be hard to fit a round peg in a rectangle whole, but you could replace them with aftermarket or get a z71 valance....

valance, that helps! i'll do what it takes to make it look right. i thought i might have to change the bumper. thanks for the input.

catskins? i have no experience here, would you care to elaborate? what the heck is leatherette?

Katskins, ooh wee! that looks nice, thanks.

also wondering:

preferred tune up and oil change material.

also to experienced members: if you had it to do over, what would be the first few things you do?

Welcome!

Everything you want to do except possibly the 2 DIN radio is easy. The radio requires some gutting to the inside of the dashboard to make room for the radio. Anyway, once again, welcome!

looks like fun.
only issue i'm having is determining which year models have which write ups. (which years are alike)

00-02 are the same and 03-06 are the same when talking about electrical and interior stuff. most of the body is the same 00-06.

first thing i would do is clean the top end with seafoam, put some in the gas tank, some in the oil. then change the oil, change the fuel filter and the air filter. maybe change the plugs and wires depending on when that was last done. then i would put the k&n in, or get a spectre system which cost about 120 and has been proven to work great! next i would get a blackbear tune! after its running like a top just do whatever you want appearance wise.

Tune-up I use AC Delco plugs and either Delco or Taylor Thundervolt wires, and oil chage I use Mobil 1 5w-30 and AC Delco PF46 filter. welcome-z71ts.gif

check out crutchfield.com for figuring out what type of head unit you want. some radios require modification to your dash and others dont. i highly recommend the pioneer. i had the p4100dvd before it got stolen 2 weeks ago. i have a pioneer 4200dvd on the way now. neither of these required any cutting or gutting of my dash. just straight up bolt in design. the wiring is extremely easy if you know how to solder. the interface adapter comes with instructions on what wires to hook up. very straight forward.

i recommended crutchfield because they tell you if your truck will require modification. its also a good place to look at the different head units out there. but i will say they dont always have the best prices. but if you just add the head unit to your cart then they will tell you everything you need. then you can take that information and shop around for the best prices. thats what i did and it worked out great

also i highly recommend the seafoam and a cold air intake. they make your engine run more smoothly and give it some more pep when you hit the gas. i have a green air intake and wont buy anything else. it gave me about 1.5mpg better than what i was getting. this summer i plan to get a blackbear tune. every member on here that has one swears by them and i trust everyone here

anyways welcome to the forum!
