Full Version: Variable Oil Pressure?

I recently switched to a Mobil One M-107 filter (always run w Mobil One 5W-30) and noticed that the oil pressure now reads 40 lbs at idle and up to 70 lbs when I accelerate. I regularly cruise at between 50-60 lbs of pressure with this oil/filter combo, where w an AC Delco filter I was almost always right around centerline or 40 lbs. Is this higher and variable pressure from the Mobil One filter a good thing, or is my engine better off running at a near constant 40 lbs. i.e less likely to blow a seal or other malfunction (truck is pushing 130k miles).
Also, if you are Delco fans... who (besides Scott) prefers the PF61 over the factory 46?
Thanks for any thoughts and advice!

I use the same oil but switched to a bosch filter. The pressure is higher on mine now too. I used to use the delco filter. I was thinking the higher pressure is better but I'm curious to find this out too. Good question. blink.gif

Did you ever get any responses? I just changed my oil yesterday and now am experiencing fluctuations in pressure with acceleration. Just like you said, my guage reads around 45 while cruising, but will approach 60-65 with hard acceleration. I have never notice this before. Is there any chance of this doing harm? Thanks, for any input. BTW: I to am running Mobile 1 5-30 with the same Fram filter that I have always used.

Next, I do not see any problem with the pressures you're reporting. No harm done. thumbsup.png

justin told me that high boost pressure is actually better so you are good
Dylan
Well yes, high boost pressure would be better and pretty fun.

The oil pressure you're talking about is ok. I spike upto 70 under WOT as well. Remember this is a 5.3L V8 so there are a lot of passages and such the oil has to pass through so the presssure needs to be up. 70PSI on a V6 or I4, you got some issues.

Thanks for correcting, my mistake

Mine does the exact same thing, below 40 at warm idle and around 70 on WOT. Mine will almost hit 70 under mild acceleration when cold. This happened when I switched to Mobile 1 oil and Mobile 1 filter. I asked this question a couple of months ago either on here or over on TYF and got responses that everything was fine.

It always seems to me that my pressure will be a little bit higher the first 300 miles or so after an oil change.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe my pressure has always done that, I just didn't notice the changes. Glad to hear that all is good. Thanks again.

justin could hook you up with a super charger
Dylan
Na I'm good for now. The tranny would have to be built before any boost came and right now I'm not sure what I want to do with the tahoe.

i would love to cash some savings bonds and build the tranny and ad the supercharger
