I met this girl out last week and in our random conversation we got to talking about travel and how she was traveling over to Sicily. I was like how can you afford to do that, as she works as a waitress part-time. She told me about www.couchsurfing.org which is like a facebook for travelers. Find out where you are going and meet people that live in the region and are willing to share one of there rooms or show you around or whatever. Basically allows you to have a friend where ever you go!

Seems like a pretty cool concept, allows you to rate people that you have stayed with and view what others have said so you know it is safe or at least somewhat legitimate! I think that there are over 1 million "couches" available worldwide!

Just thought that I would see if anybody else knew about it!

Sounds kind of sketchy to me but also convenient. all you have to pay for is airfare and food which is great!

there is also as carpool company that you can carpool or share a ride across the country with unknown people..

After the craigslist rapist, you would think this kind of stuff would be done..

what if you plan an expensive trip and the guy lies to you? Or picks you up and then takes you to a dump? How do youget out of it? sounds dangerous in this time of crazy child molesters,murderers etc..

Definitely a little sketchy! There is the rating system to try and make it a little bit safer, I'm certainly not planning a trip right now but I might check it out later on!

Don't do it! I don't want you dying the ways they did in hostel. Just imagine chainsaws and flames and knives and tools. ouch.....

It's nice to know that America is fairly safe and we have to resort to making fictitious movies to shock our senses to allow us to be scared.

The airfare and food are the most expensive things anyway.... I would think personal safety would be worth the $64.99 Holiday Inn rate
