Since we have some new people in the area, and a couple of us have been talking about going shooting, it sounds like the perfect time to get together, shoot some guns and talk about trucks.
This is a pretty rough time of year to get things scheduled, but who's interested in doing this, and when are you available? The proposed location would be the PG County range in Glen Dale, MD (about 10 minutes off of 495 and the BW Parkway, so it should be pretty easy to get to).

Depending on my health status and the timing, we would be interested, and have a few shotguns we could loan out.
If we have enough people, maybe we can reserve spots?

Almost right in my backyard, so if my schedule permits, I certainly will try to come. When were you thinking?

Based on Jenna's knee and the upcoming holidays and deer season (rifle season kills 3 Saturdays), I was thinking that maybe we hope for a not-freezing weekend in January? I don't think that there are that many weekends that folks would be available between now and then.

I agree with Ryan, a Jan/Feb timeframe would be good for us especially with the holidays coming up.

You mean, we actually have to use a range in PG County? I thought the entire place was a free fire zone....

Might be too cold then. We could all go to Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly and save skeet/trap shooting for warmer weather like late march or april? Just a thought cause I'm a little baby when it comes to being cold.

Dude gimme a break. If I want to shoot my .50 at 50yds then so be it. Yeah I know it's a 1000+yard gun, you are the king for pointing out the obvious. The fact is that not very many outdoor ranges permit .50bmg rifles, let alone a nice heated indoor range. The private land I shoot long distance on is a 2hr drive. In the dead of winter it's a nice place to go within a mile of my house just to pull the trigger and let other people shoot it.

it was more of a rhetorical question.... but since it's a discussion now, i am curious to know what there is to gain with shooting a large caliber at short distances? I can't imagine that anyone would shoot for groups with a 1/2" bullet at 50yds

by the way, I'm not attacking you, so give the linebackers a water break

You're argument implies that someone who shoots a 50BMG on a 50yd indoor range is somehow misguided or an idiot, so excuse me if I take it personally.
Using your agrument, why shoot any caliber at 50yds when you can simply throw the bullet at the target or walk over and push it in manually?
What difference does it make whether you shoot a .50 cal bullet or a .45ACP? Does that extra 5/100ths of an inch really matter?
The fact is that not everyone has access to a 50cal range setup. Especially one located in such a populated area. Now I can take new shooters to the range and let them experience what its like to fire a .50cal (a real .50cal) without having to drive two hours to the private property. And I can simply have a little fun letting off a few rounds. Most outdoor ranges whether public or private do not even allow .50BMG for that matter.
