when im in the regular categories of forum topics a small dot appears in the colored envelope that sits on the left of topics ive posted in. i think it would be helpful to keep track of my posts if that dot also showed up in the "view new posts" section. i dont always remember which ones ive posted in.

Yeah, we tried to account for this in the past but ran into some technical problems in getting the dot to show when using the View New Posts link.

Yeah, we looked into this one with the developers way back when and there was some issue that restricts some normal features in the 'View New Post' routine, which is essentially a search result.

that bites. sure would make it alot easier at a glance
