Here's a write up documenting the steps I took to add the Under Hood Lamp from a 2002 Tahoe.

Why did they eliminate the underhood lamp?

One time, i droped my truck off for service or soem repair, and to my dismay, it returned without a under hood light. Cept for the one you have to turn on and coil up and stuff. but still...who takes a hood light...Hot comodity?

I dunno, 10 bucks? I think that's OK, right? Of course, postage won't be the e-bay $54563.23 dollars... it will be what the U.S.P.S. charges

It also has that harness thingy too, I snipped it as it 'Y''d to another harness..so, it's purty long, the harness thingy.

I'm glad they're going, as if they didn't, I'd have to have 4 installed under my hood, very bright indeed! I'm just glad you guys can use them as 'stocking stuffers'... one left, if he takes it!

I have been looking to do this mode.

When I go to gmpartsdirect.com to order the parts, I am able to get all of the parts except for GM PN# 12116958 Lamp Harness. Does anyone know where I can buy this part?

jpearce, just call them. Their online listing are not always complete. Also, the number might have been recently superceded.

There has been a superceded part number. I just picked up these items from my friendly, local Chevy dealer. Here's the latest info:

12450086 Lamp $13.43
15306302 Connector $24.21 (previously defined as 12116958 Lamp Harness)
20064875 Retainer $ 1.59
8917937 Clip $ 0.63

AND, you really don't need to buy the hood retainers, unless you manage to completely strip them while pulling them out. I was able to pull them out and shove 'em back in and they were just as secure as before. That being said, if you do need new ones, forget going to the dealer for them and paying through the nose, Autozone sells a pack of these under "GM Hood Retainers" label.. for whatever the price... my local dealer wanted over $3 a piece!

Thanks for the advice on the under hood light. When I bought my truck their was no light under the hood. So I went to the junk yard and found one on a STS it was only 2 wires. 1 black - & 1 brown + . The light has a mercury switch built in to it. When the hood is in the up position the light is on , when the hood is down the light goes out. so just ground the ground wire an ran the hot to a hot wire. the person who had my truck before me had aftermarket fog lights on it an took them off but left the wiring harness. so i used the hot wire from that. now i have lite. an it only cost me $2 bucks $1 to get in $1 for the part.

THANKS 4 THE ADVICE NOW WE HAVE LITE yahoo.gif biggrin2.gif
