4" Or 6" With 35's, Should I go with a 4 or 6 inch lift?

I'm about to drop some money on a full suspension lift. With the Ranchhand front bumper, the keys can't keep the truck up high enough to not rub. I don't want to go any larger on tire size, currently I have 35x11.50 and will most likely go to 35x12.50 at my next tire replacement. I don't want the wheel wells to look empty or the tires to look too small. Also, if i go with the 4" I can keep the keys installed and crank them all the way down to buy an extra inch or so. Any thoughts/suggestions?

If you crank the keys, 4" suspension lift will work. If you leave the keys stock, go with the 6" lift to clear the 35x12.5 wheels/tires. wink.gif

I have an 08 sierra and this burb and my wife and I switch cars basically every other week. My concern is that a 6 inch will be too big for her and even though i love the thought of them, the price per tire jumps significantly after 35's and I tend to drive a lot (30-40K/year) so I'm happy with the 35's. My dilemma is that I can get a Rough Country 6" for $1299+shipping and a Ranch 4" is $1600 (Local 4 Wheel Parts) decisions decisions...I just want to clear the 35's just enough not to rub...for the cheapest price! Any suggestions on other lift kit brands?

Go with the 6" because it takes just as much effort to install, and is the same cost as a 4". Your 35's will most likely rub with a 4", so you would have to crank your keys....... or you could run a 6" without cranking (better front geometry, much less wear and tear). I have 35's and 5 inches of lift, my kids can get in and out without much trouble so I think your wife would be fine if you have running boards.

I think I might be leaning towards the 6" does anybody have a picture of a NBS with a 6" and 35's? I might go to a few of the local 4x4 shops and see if anyone has a similar setup. I am just worried that the wheel wells will look empty, and then I would want bigger tires...more money...

I doubt you will be able to clear 37s anyway. The only thing is that the tires will look very thin for a 6" lifted suburban. If I had the money I would love to put a suspension lift on mine.

6" it is! I know my current set of tires will look somewhat skinny on it but when I replace them, I'll go with 35x12.50's. For a 4" lift and 4 shocks its about $2100. Delivered to my door a 6" rough country lift, 2 rear shocks (not included in original kit), the additional "kicker braces", front steering stabilizer, and a torsion bar unloading tool is $1684.05. Now uncle sam just needs to deposit my money!

i would find a local performance wholesaler. you will be paying way too much for the lift. it should be 900 or less. the 35's will rub with the 4". go with the 6" and remove all worry....

I've never heard of a wholesaler asking 900 or 1000 installed. Explain this please.

Also a 4" will allow you to fit 35 x 12.50. I've seen it.

I know I could squeeze by with a 4" especially with keys. Right now I just have keys and have done some moderate/heavy off roading and only rubbed a little. A 4" might clear the tires during daily driving ok but it would most likely still rub under full flex and 200lbs+ hanging on the front end +winch, 6 inch sounds like a better option.

I will still most likely install the lift myself regardless of where I get it...if I can get it under $1K that would be great...either way not outrages for a 6" lift. The kit he is referring to may not include the rear shocks, kicker braces, and steering stabilizers either. The kit excludes these items and only lowers the factory rear shocks. I want the whole deal, including new full size rear shocks, I building a keeper! "If its worth doing, Its worth overdoing!"

Is it homemade? Or made it China?

I know the rough country lifts are getting below $1000 for OBS's, but for NBS tahoe's, you aren't going to find them under $1250..... suprise me!

Possible Change in direction:

I spoke with our local 4wheelparts people today and discussed 6" lifts. They recommended that a pro-comp 6" lift was far superior to the Rough Country based on strength but most importantly because the front drive shaft needed to be replaced with that amount of lift. I was quoted $1766 for the Pro-Comp with the new driveshaft and 4 ES9000 shocks. Only about $80 more. Anyone currently running a 6" that can offer some direction? I'm leaning toward a kit that replaces the driveshaft now. Also, dual front shocks?
