in the market for a Chevrolet Silverado found a 2500 H/D with 186K and I'm pretty scared of the high mileage but truck looks to be in good condition. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

When buying a used vehicle, regardless of the miles, overall condition rules. I'd want to see the maintenance records if available, just for curiosity and a little peace of mind. If no records are available, I'd shy away some, unless it is in great condition. Even with great records of proper maintenance, just understand that with any used vehicle things can go wrong that no one can predict.

Personally, on my vehicles I always make my maintenance records available, even when I trade in to a dealer. I also let the dealer know that any subsequent owner may contact me about the truck. I'm proud of the care I give the vehicles I own, and don't trade them in to burn the next guy. When selling privately, my trucks always sell to the first person that actually looks at them. They stand out from the "average" used truck. While I can not warranty them, I have great confidence in them and would not hesitate to sell them to a friend.

Good luck with your decision. Hope it works out for you! thumbsup.png I think a 2500 "Burb is a neat truck. What year are you looking at?

As long as it is well maintained, it should be usable. Engine and transmission are beefier than the 1/2 ton counterparts. Just keep in mind, it is older and things do break. One thing to watch out for--if it is a northern truck, is gonna be rust--unless someone took extra care to wash things out thoroughly. Or not drive it during the bad months. Rear wheel wells, cab corners, rocker panels and bumpers are very prone to rust.

Yes, exactly. That issue of rust was the only reason I got rid of my 2002 Silverado in 2012, besides upgrading to a 3/4 ton. I hate rust, and the cab corners and spot over the rear wheelwells on my 2002 truck were getting rust. The rest of the truck was fine, and it ran perfectly, but rust is non-stop. Plus, I was anal about washing underneath it often, in winter and summer, but it's very difficult to stop the rust..

I just noticed that this is a 2004 2500 Suburban. Does that year have e-fans? I think it was 2005 model year that the 1500's went to e-fans, but not sure on the heavier 2500 series.
