15306302 is the correct number. I did this mod last Sept, and I also noticed the funky description on gmpartsdirect, but I ordered it anyways being only about $13. Install and parts went in perfectly.

i didn't think i would, either. then i got sick of needing someone to hold a flashlight for me so i could use two hands to get at something, or worse, they were incapable of getting the flashlight where i wanted it because of where i was standing. i don't have one yet, but i'm thinking it would be worth including in my toolkit if i'm ever by myself and need targeted lighting.

Im assuming that you have to manually switch it on....is there a way to trigger it to come on when hood is open?

It's built into the light.

Actually, I'm not sure if it's mercury anymore, but kind of a figure of speech. However, the net effect is, when the hood raises more than 1/2 way, the lamp automatically illuminates.

ROHS compliance = no mercury..... There is a little ball in the light to make contact.

Yeah, it can stick as it ages.....

I installed one of these in my 04 recently, and I have a little info to add. Instead of using one of the fuse/wire adder things the write up mentioned, another place to grab fused 12v+ power is right under the engine compartment fuse box. There are 2 posts, labeled "A" and "B".....they are Aux power posts and are fused in the same box. To access the A or B post, you need to remove the outer shell cover of the fuse box. Once removed, they are easy to see if you follow the schematic on the lid. I powered my under hood light off the B post because my Tahoe didn't have a fuse in the A post slot. YMMV...

Has anyone successfully mounted one of these lights on the passenger side of the hood? I find that I need this light more on the passenger side than the factory location drivers side....mostly when checking the oil in low light conditions. I'm guessing the mounting holes are not there in the hood, but wanted to see if it's been done?

Bump - I was just wondering the same thing on the double light. Factory light on the driver side because they saved two pennies on wire. The best thing GM had going was the retractable light that was available on the '88 and up gasser trucks. You can put that light anywhere that's handy in the engine bay.

so, double mercury switch light anyone?
