i dont recomend it but you could pull it with out trailer brakes... last year i pulled a 26 foot centerion about 50 miles with out brake controler.. it did have emergence brake thing in the tongue though...

The wireing harness is simple plug and play to the truck, as for the controller all are different.. IF you have more than one truck id buy the connectors.. we have 4x4's and my friend has two. so i just got on brake controler.. and bunch of plugs... that way i can just swap out the controler by unpluging it if need to be.. Im not sure how he did it but i think he marked the wires from the truck, then changed the wiring in the plugs... its over my head. i just set there an handed him a beer and tape when he ask for it...

That is a surge brake which are more popular on boat trailer than electric brakes. You don't need a brake controller for surge brakes, only for electric trailer brakes.

Andy - Maybe he is referring to the "break-away" brakes, and not the boating surge brakes?

Kerr - Which was it? Was it a hydraulic surge brake, or a break-away brake, as if the trailer breaks away from the truck, an emergency brake?

I have the Prodigy and love it.

You can get the prefabbed wiring harnesses (from controller to vehicle) for our trucks for about $15-20. I have two mounts so I can swap mine from the Dakota to the Tahoe real fast.

At 5-6K I bet you'd get about the same mpg I do while towing which is 10-12 mpg, mostly right at 11.

For the nnbs Tahoes you have to hardwire the controller to the vehicle. Why GM went away from the plug in harness is beyond me, but now there is a pigtail harness under the dash that has all the proper wires. Under the hood you need to connect 2 wires to the fuse box...1 wire provides power to the interior harness to power the brake box, the other wire provides 12 volt power to the rear 7-pin trailer plug and provides power to charge the electric brakes battery for the break-away.

Really? Why, especially on a truck, would GM do that? The plug acces on the NBS is so sweet, makes no sense to eliminate it on the NNBS. Do they offer a "factory" brake controller on the NNBS trucks?

they did 09 up. But I dont like the stock controlers. I like the preportional controllers better (like the P3) The stock ones are a bit harder to use as you have to adjust them. Since the p3 matches the trailer brakes pressure to my brakes it takes away the guess work.
